A power posture can give you confidence and reduce stress in challenging situations.
The “Super-hero” posture actually affects your body and brain in ways that reduce stress and boost confidence. Stand tall with shoulders pulled back, widen your stance, spread your arm and you will raise your testosterone and lower stress hormones. Give it a try when you want to take a strong stance on an issue or when you are feeling threatened. It affects you and the other person.
Try the reverse, non-power posture – hunch your shoulders, bring your arm into the middle of your body and tuck your chin. The posture not only looks more defensive, it causes a corresponding hormonal effect.
It may seem strange that body posture causes changes in the brain and mind but there is an interesting and emerging field of study called embodied cognition.
