Turmeric (Curcuma longa) is a major culinary spice in Indian curries and the source of American mustard’s bright yellow color.
Anecdotal evidence of turmeric medical properties has existed for centuries. Now, the National Institutes of Health lists 24 scientific studies supporting the benefits to curcumin, turmeric’s major active ingredient.
According to a review published in Advanced Experimental Medical Biology,
Curcumin has been shown to exhibit antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal, and anticancer activities and thus has a potential against various malignant diseases, diabetes, allergies, arthritis, Alzheimer’s disease and other chronic illnesses.
Turmeric just might be the Spice of Life.
